Sept. 11th/12th Responsibility and Free Will: Online Zen Meditation and Philosophy Session in English

September 10, 2021

The Topic for this Weekend: Responsibility and Free Will
Thank you so much for joining the session last week.
With the participants, we discussed about “Now”. What is “now”? There are different concepts of “now” in different culture. Also, can we actually capture the moment called “now”. How long is “now”? How critical is “now” to the future? And, many more.
We are not denying the common idea of now. But also, we should see “now” and “time” different way, as well. That provides us the different notion of “self”, as well.
This weekend, we will discuss a related topic to the last weekend theme. It’s “responsibility (and free will)”. We’d like to discuss this topic from Buddhist (Zen and True Pureland) and contemporary Japanese philosophy.
Of course, we will practice zazen (Zen meditation), a guided meditation to understand the impact of our language and Nanso meditation (18th century Zen self-compassion practice) with you.
