Photo of the Day "Setsubun"- 2/2
photo

The 3nd of February is the "Setsubun", which literally means a seasonal division. In Japan, we only celebrate the seasonal division between the winter and spring.

The photo is taken at the Mibu temple in Kyoto. The ceremony is done by esoteric Buddhist practitionars, "yamabushi". They makes a huge bonfire. With smoke from the bonfire, we chase awasy evil spirits "oni" from our house.  Also, we throw pan-heated soy beans inside of our house to chase away evil spirits and invite good luck to our house.
